We supply Custom Neodymium Rods finished with a premium Quad-Layer Gold Plating (Ni-Cu-Ni-Au).

Standard Nickel-plated rods are functional for holding.
But they oxidize over time.
This creates electrical resistance and potential skin irritation.

Our Gold Plated Rods are engineered for high-tech integration.
They combine the deep magnetic reach of the rod shape with the Noble Metal properties of Gold.

This makes them the industry standard for applications that require reliability and conductivity are non-negotiable.

Why Gold Rods?

Here is why engineers specify it for rod magnets:

1. Electrical Conductivity (The Charging Pin):

The Application:
Magnetic charging cables and dock connectors.

Standard Nickel oxides increase electrical resistance.
This leads to slow charging or signal loss.
Gold does not oxidize.

The Plating Structure:

We do not simply flash-gold a raw magnet.

We use a 4-stage process:

1).Base Nickel: Adhesion to the Neodymium core.
2). Copper: Corrosion protection and surface leveling.
3). Second Nickel: Structural hardness.
4). Top Gold (24k): The functional conductive/cosmetic layer (0.05 โ€“ 0.1 microns).

5). Total Thickness: ~15-20 microns.
6). Tolerance:
– Rods are often press-fit.
– We can hold diameter tolerances to ยฑ0.05mm (Standard).
– Or ยฑ0.005mm (Precision) upon request.

Durability Advisory: Sliding vs. Contact

Gold is soft.
Design your mechanism accordingly.

The “Compression” Rule:

The Warning:
Gold has low hardness.
If you design a mechanism where the rod slides inside a steel tube or latch, the gold layer will wear away quickly.

The Advice:
Gold magnets should be used for Compression Contacts (Snap-On / Snap-Off) only.
If sliding is required, consider our Everlube coating instead.
