Custom Disc-Type Magnetic Couplings & Planar Drives (Axial Flux)

Transmit rotation through flat walls like glass or metal for hermetically sealed bioreactors and chambers.

Protect drive trains from damage with couplings that slip instantly upon overload or jamming.

Adjust torque limits easily on-site by varying the air gap distance between the magnetic discs.

Customize pole configurations and magnet grades to handle specific torque requirements up to 500 Nm.

Available in washdown-ready stainless steel or high-temperature Samarium Cobalt for harsh industrial environments.

Description

Transmit torque through flat barriers and limit overload risks with our Disc-Type (Planar) Magnetic Couplings.

Radial couplings that require a cylindrical containment shell.
These Face-to-Face assemblies use Axial Flux technology.
They transmit rotation through flat walls of glass, acrylic, or non-magnetic metal.

This geometry is ideal for space-constrained applications where axial length is limited.

Mount two opposing magnetic discs on separate shafts.
The coupling creates a synchronous link.
It inherently functions as a Soft-Start Mechanism and a Safety Torque Limiter.

If the driven load jams, the magnetic bond breaks (‘slips’) instantly.
Prevent motor burnout or gearbox damage.

Engineering & Manufacturing Capabilities

Through-Wall Transmission:

The planar design allows you to hermetically seal a vessel using a simple flat window.
This is the preferred solution for Bioreactors, Gloveboxes.
And Vacuum Chambers where cleaning a complex cylindrical shell is difficult.

Adjustable Torque Control:

One of the unique advantages of our disc couplings is the ability to tune the breakaway torque.
Adjust the Air Gap (distance) between the two discs.
You can precisely calibrate the slip point to match your safety requirements.

Multipole Array Configuration:

We optimize the magnetic pattern based on your torque density needs.
Such as 2-pole, 4-pole, up to 12+ poles.

Higher pole counts provide “stiffer” coupling with less backlash.
And lower pole counts allow for greater misalignment tolerance.

Customization Options

A. Mounting & Hub Styles

Clamp-Style Hubs:
Zero-backlash aluminum or stainless steel hubs.
They clamp securely onto servo motor shafts without marring.

Flange Mount:
Discs designed to bolt directly onto robotic arms, flywheels, or custom fixtures.

B. Environment & Materials

Cleanroom & Washdown:
Fully encapsulated discs (Stainless Steel 316L or Ni-Cu-Ni coated) for food processing and semiconductor environments.
Such working environments prohibit particle generation.

High-Temp Environments:
Use Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) magnets for applications near ovens or heated mixers (up to 300ยฐC).

C. Hybrid Functions

Linear-Rotary:
Planar couplings can tolerate significant radial misalignment.
This allows them to be used in unique mechanisms.
Their drive shaft might shift position relative to the load.

Design a failsafe into your drive train

Whether you need to transmit power through a glovebox window.
Or protect a delicate mechanism from jamming.
Planar couplings offer the most versatile solution.
