We supply Neodymium magnets with a domed profile.
Flat bottom surface with a rounded, dome-shaped top and a central through-hole.
The flat bottom provides stable mounting.
The smooth domed top eliminates sharp edges.
And the through-hole allows for sewing, pinning, or screw attachment.
This profile is designed for exposed applications where the magnet is visible or touched:
– Closures on clothing, leather goods, luxury packaging, and tactile interface points.
The rounded surface prevents snagging.
And provides a finished appearance compared to standard flat-faced ring magnets.
The “Ergonomic” Advantage
Designed for Touch & Safety:
Standard magnets have sharp edges that can scratch skin, cut fabric, or chip easily.
Snag-Free Profile:
– The domed top allows fabric to slide over the magnet without catching.
– This is critical for magnetic clasps in fashion and bags.
Chip Resistance:
– There are no sharp corners on the outer diameter.
– This shape is exceptionally durable against impact.
– It is safe for high-use consumer products.
Self-Centering Feel:
– When used as a mating pair, two domed magnets provide a satisfying “self-centering” tactile feel when they snap together.
Technical Geometry: Defining the Curve
Please define the cross-section to manufacture it correctly.
To quote this accurately, we categorize the shape features:
– The Base: Completely flat (for gluing or resting against a surface).
– The Dome: Is it a “Full Hemisphere” (like half a ball) or a “Flattened Dome” (like the photo, where it is a shallow curve)?
– The Hole: A straight through-hole (non-countersunk) designed for thread, wire, or a small retaining pin.
Production Method
Manufacturing Note:
Please be aware that Domed Magnets are Pressed-to-Shape.
– It is not like standard discs which are sliced from a long cylinder.
– This shape requires a specific Pressing Mold to create the curve before sintering.
Tooling:
If you need a custom size that matches an existing mold, there is no tooling fee.
If you need a unique curvature, a one-time tooling fee may apply.
Surface Coatings
Zinc (Zn):
– Similar to the photo.
– A durable, cost-effective blue-grey finish.
– Good for industrial buttons.
Nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni):
– A bright, mirror-like silver finish.
– Best for luxury packaging.
Gold / Rose Gold:
– Highly recommended for buttons used on apparel or jewelry.
Epoxy (Black):
– Used for tactical gear or discreet closures.
Applications
Apparel: Sew-in magnetic buttons for jackets and bags (the hole allows for thread).
Luxury Packaging: The visible “stud” on a high-end box closure.
Electronics: A magnetic “pogo pin” contact point that needs to be smooth to the touch.
Bearings: The hole and dome shape can act as a pivot point for a ball bearing.
Ordering Guide: What We Need
To provide a quote, please specify:
1). Base Diameter (OD): The width of the flat bottom.
2). Total Height (H): The height at the peak of the dome.
3). Hole Diameter (ID): The size of the center hole.
4). Dome Profile: Do you want a “High Dome” (ball shape) or “Low Dome” (button shape)?
5). Coating: Zinc, Nickel, or Gold?
