Color-Coded Identification, 500+ Hour Salt Spray Resistance, Superior Bonding
We supply Custom Neodymium Cylinders coated in a durable Blue Epoxy finish.
While standard magnets look identical (shiny silver), our Blue Epoxy coating serves a dual purpose:
Environmental Protection:
– It creates a hermetic seal against moisture, salt, and humidity, far superior to standard Nickel plating.
Visual Logic:
– It acts as an instant visual indicator for your assembly work.
– Help you identify specific polarities (e.g., Blue = North).
– Or distinguishing specific magnetic grades within your inventory.
Why Blue Epoxy?
Color coding is not just aesthetic; it is a manufacturing control strategy.
1. “Poka-Yoke” (Mistake-Proofing):
The Problem:
On a fast-moving assembly line, operators often install magnets upside down (wrong polarity).
Or mix up N35 and N52 magnets because they look identical.
The Solution:
Using Blue Epoxy allows for instant visual verification.
You can designate “Blue” for the Sensor Magnet and “Silver” for the Latch Magnet.
This eliminates installation errors without expensive testing equipment.
2. The “Glue” Advantage (Adhesion):
The Problem:
Nickel plating is slippery.
Glues often fail to bond with it.
The Solution:
Just like our Black Epoxy, the Blue Epoxy resin provides a high-friction, high-surface-energy texture.
It bonds aggressively with industrial adhesives (Loctite, 3M, Araldite).
Ensure the cylinder never pulls out of its housing.
3. Dielectric Insulation:
The Benefit:
Epoxy is an electrical insulator.
If this cylinder is used inside a solenoid or near open PCB traces, the blue coating prevents electrical arcing or short circuits.
This is a problem that can happen with conductive Nickel plating.
Dimensions & Durability
Epoxy is a coating, but it has physical mass.
1. The Interference Fit Warning:
The Spec:
Standard Nickel plating is ~15 microns thick.
Blue Epoxy is 20 โ 30 microns thick.
The Risk:
Cylinder magnets are often pressed into drilled holes.
If you drill the hole for a standard magnet, the Blue Epoxy version might be too tight or scrape off during insertion.
Our Advice:
Please consider an extra 0.05mm clearance in your housing design to accommodate the thicker coating.
2. Abrasion Resistance:
The Limit:
Epoxy is a cured resin (plastic).
It is not as hard as metal.
The Warning:
Do not use Blue Epoxy cylinders in applications where they slide back and forth against rough steel.
The coating will eventually scratch.
And will compromise the color and the seal.
Ideal Applications
Sensor Triggers: Distinguishing the “Active” magnet from structural magnets in complex assemblies.
Medical Devices: Color-coded magnetic connectors for sterile water/air lines.
Consumer Products: Branding alignment (matching the magnet to the product housing color).
Marine Sensors: Cylinders exposed to salt air where Nickel would rust.
Ordering Guide: Specifying the Color
To ensure the coating meets your needs, please specify:
1). Coverage: “Full Coating” (Entire magnet is blue) or “Single Face”.
– Only the North pole face is sprayed blue)?
2). Color Tone: “Is standard Industrial Blue okay, or do you need a specific RAL color match?”
3). Hole Fit: “Is this being pressed into a hole?”
– We can sort for tighter diameter tolerances if needed.
4). Adhesive: “Will you be gluing this?”
– We can maximize surface roughness for better grip.
