We supply custom square bar Neodymium magnets as per your specifications.
Also called square rods, with equal width and thickness and an elongated length.
The square cross-section provides flat mounting surfaces for adhesive bonding or mechanical retention.
The rod geometry concentrates the poles at the ends.
They have wide applications in linear sensors, magnetic filter bars, and drawer-style separation systems.
We supply these with radiused (filleted) edges rather than sharp corners.
Sintered Neodymium is brittle, and sharp edges are prone to:
– Chipping during handling
– Insertion into housings
– And repetitive contact in moving assemblies
Rounded edges reduce this risk significantly.
And allow smoother insertion into close-tolerance slots or tubes.
Available in cross-sections from 3ร3mm to 25ร25mm and lengths up to 150mm.
Specify edge radius if required.
The “Rounded Edge” Advantage
Engineered for Durability:
Sintered Neodymium is naturally brittle.
On a long, thin bar, sharp 90ยฐ corners are high-stress points that chip easily.
Our Standard:
– We supply square bars with Radiused Edges (as seen in the photo).
The Benefit:
– Impact Resistance: The rounded profile deflects impacts that would shatter a sharp corner.
– Smooth Assembly: They slide effortlessly into tight channels or tubes without scratching the housing.
– Plating Life: The smooth curve allows for uniform Nickel adhesion, preventing corrosion at the edges.
Magnetization Directions
For a square bar, the direction drastically changes the use case.
Please specify your required orientation:
Through Length (Axial):
– The North and South poles are on the two small square ends.
– Application: Magnetic stirring bars, reed switch activation, “end-on” holding.
Through Thickness (Transverse):
– The poles are on two of the long flat sides.
– Application: Magnetic separators (grate magnets), clamping bars, and Hall effect linear sensors.
Note:
– Since the cross-section is square, we must mark the pole faces so you know which side is “active.”
Surface Coatings
Ni-Cu-Ni (Nickel):
– As shown in photo.
– The smooth rounded edges promote a mirror-like, high-quality finish.
Epoxy: Recommended for waterproof applications.
Teflon / PTFE: For sliding applications where low friction is required.
Stainless Steel Sheathing: For food-grade magnetic separation bars, we can encase these magnets in 304/316L steel tubes.
Applications
Magnetic Separation: The core component inside filter rods used to pull iron filings from liquid or grain.
Sensors: Linear position sensing (using the long magnetic field).
Jigs & Fixtures: Using the flat sides to align steel parts, unlike a round rod which allows parts to roll.
Design: Architectural latches where a round rod would rotate, but a square bar stays locked in position.
Ordering Guide: What We Need
To quote accurate pricing and lead time, please provide:
1). Cross Section: Side dimension (e.g., 5mm x 5mm).
2). Length: Total length (e.g., 50mm).
3). Magnetization: “Ends” (Axial) or “Sides” (Transverse)?
4). Edge Style: Do you need the Rounded Edges (as shown) or Sharp Corners (for zero-gap stacking)?
