The Grinding Standard
The PMC S Series is our most popular general-purpose permanent magnetic chuck.
They are suitable for handling the widest range of day-to-day grinding tasks.
Built with high-energy Neodymium (NdFeB) magnets, it offers a reliable 100 N/cm2 holding force.
That remains constant over decades of use.
The “Standard Pole” Configuration (P:4+2)
Unlike our Micro-Pitch series, the PMC S uses a Standard Pole Pitch of 6 mm.
It means 4 mm Steel magnetic poles separated by 2 mm Brass spacers.
Why this matters:
This wider spacing creates a magnetic flux loop.
And it penetrates deeper than micro-pitch chucks.
This makes the PMC S significantly better at holding thicker workpieces and components with slightly rougher surfaces.
Meanwhile, ultra-fine magnetic fields might struggle to bridge the air gap.
Key Performance Features
High Precision: Manufactured with a parallelism tolerance of 0.005 mm/100 mm.
Ensure your ground parts come off the machine flat and true.
Coolant & Water Proof:
The internal magnetic system is fully sealed against grinding fluids, coolants, and EDM dielectric fluids.
Extended Lifespan:
The top plate is thick enough to allow for repeated re-grinding (skimming) maintenance.
It has a total wear limit of 5 mm.
Choosing the Right Pitch
1. PMC S (Standard) vs. PMCM (Micro Pitch)?
Choose this PMC S Series (4+2 Pitch) if:
You are grinding standard tool steel plates, die blocks.
Or machinery components that are generally thicker than 3 mm.
The deeper flux offers a stronger hold on these bulkier items.
Choose the PMCM (Micro Pitch) if:
You are grinding extremely thin shims, washers, or small electronics parts (under 2 mm thick).
The PMC S pitch is too wide for tiny parts.
They might not span across enough poles to be held securely.
2. Low Residual Magnetism
The magnetic circuit has strong Neodymium magnets.
But it collapses fully when turned off.
This means “low remaining magnetism” in the workpiece.
So it is easy to remove the part and clear away grinding swarf without it sticking to the surface.
3. Versatility Beyond Grinding
This series is primarily a surface grinder chuck.
But the strong 100 N/cm2 force and waterproof nature make this series excellent for light-duty Milling (Engraving).
And Sink EDM operations on larger electrodes.
