Description

We supply Neodymium tube magnets with chemical passivation surface treatment.
They are engineered for superior adhesive bonding.
Passivation provides better adhesive retention and near-zero thickness variation.

If you’re bonding magnets to shafts or embedding them in rotor housings, passivation outperforms traditional platings.
The coating integrates with the base metal.
It does not add a separate layer, giving you tighter dimensional control and stronger glue bonds.
Available in custom dimensions.

Why Choose Passivation? (The Surface Science)

1. Unmatched Adhesive Bonding

Standard Nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni) plating is smooth and has low surface energy.
This can lead to glue failures in high-speed motors.

The Passivation Advantage:
– The chemical passivation process creates a microscopic, chemically active surface structure.
– This feature significantly increases “wettability”.
– Allow industrial epoxies and anaerobics (like Loctite) to penetrate and bond with maximum shear strength.
Result:
– A bond that is structurally stronger than the magnet itself.

2. “Zero-Impact” Tolerances
Standard Nickel plating adds approximately 15โ€“20 microns (0.02mm) to your magnet’s dimensions.
In tight tube-to-shaft assemblies, this buildup can cause fitment issues.

The Passivation Advantage:
– Passivation removes surface impurities and creates a protective layer less than 1 micron thick.
Result:
– The magnet dimension you machine is the dimension you get.
– There is no plating buildup to ruin your concentricity or ID/OD fit.

3. No “Flaking” Risk
In high-stress environments, brittle Nickel plating can crack or flake off,
This issue will contaminate the motor air gap.
Passivation modifies the magnet surface itself – there is nothing to flake off.

Applications

High-Speed Rotors: Tube magnets glued onto shafts where centrifugal force is high (Passivation ensures the glue holds).
Loudspeakers: Voice coil magnets where tight air-gap tolerances are critical.
Embedded Sensors: Magnets molded inside plastic (Overmolding) โ€“ Passivation prevents the plastic from de-lamination.

Handling & Storage

Passivated magnets are more sensitive to skin oils than Nickel magnets.

Gloves Required:
– We recommend handling passivated magnets with gloves.
– Acidic sweat from fingers can mark the surface over time.

Vacuum Packaging:
– We ship all passivated parts in vacuum-sealed bags.
– Ensure they arrive in a pristine, non-oxidized state, ready for your gluing line.

Ordering Guide

To quote accurately, please confirm:

1). Dimensions: OD x ID x Length.
2). Application: “Is this being glued?” (If yes, we confirm Passivation is the right choice).
3). Environment: Will the final assembly be sealed (e.g., inside a motor)?
4). Grade: Standard or High Temperature?
5). Other passivated magnet shapes available
