Zinc is a relatively low-cost metal.
- Therefore, zinc plating is usually the cheapest surface treatment for neodymium magnets.
The chemically active nature of zinc makes it necessary for the passivation of zinc coatings after plating.
The zinc coating reacts with the passivator and generates a dense chemically transformed film.
- Zinc coatings can be divided into colored zinc and blue-white zinc, depending on the passivation effects.
Applications that zinc plated magnets are not fit:
- Zinc plating can not offer sufficient protection against alkalis, sulfides, and acids.
- Don’t use zinc plated neodymium magnets in working environments in contact with chemicals.
