Sampling Policy for Neodymium Magnets

It’s a good practice to request neodymium magnet samples before placing an order. As a custom neodymium magnet supplier, Osenc knows the importance of double-checking all the details. Having a sample in your hand helps you understand much better than reading specifications.

1. FREE neodymium magnet samples

To make it easy for neodymium magnet buyers, Osenc is more than happy to offer FREE sample upon request. And below are the applicable conditions.

1). Specifications

Generally speaking, the free samples must be the specifications that we usually have in stock. Not those that need to be custom-made from scratch. If the ones in stock are not exactly as you need, Osenc will try our best to give you the closest specifications.

2). Quantities

In principle, Osenc is able to offer free samples on the basis of 1 piece for one specification. And a new customer is eligible for 5 different specifications. Anyway, we can decide case by case and will always do our best for you.

3). Dimensions

The free samples are for those neodymium magnets with regular average sizes, excluding those big magnets, whose cost is already more than hundreds of dollars each.
If you need a sample with a size of more than 60 mm, we will find another smaller magnet sample of the same grade to give you an idea about its performance.

4). Shipping costs

Osenc offers free neodymium magnet samples, but we don’t include free shipping service. It’s the customer who takes care of the shipping costs.

5). Lead time

For the free samples that have inventory in stock, Osenc will prepare and send them out within 2 working days. If we need to make new samples or modify anything, let’s say 5 working days for a general idea (and need to confirm a date case by case).

6). Paid samples and refund

If you do need samples and they are beyond our free sample policy, Osenc is more than happy to offer custom-made samples on a paid basis. The minimum order quantity is 1 piece. Meanwhile, we can deduct the sample fee proportionally when you place orders afterwards. And the maximum proportion will be a full refund of the sample fee.

2. Why not all samples are free?

As a custom neodymium magnet supplier, Osenc tries our best to offer free samples under specific conditions. Financially, we are not able to do this for all conditions. Below are the reasons.

1). Strong neodymium magnets are not standard magnets that are sold in the market and on some major retail stores. For such magnets for average users, the manufacturers usually have plenty of inventory in stock. They can just pick the one you need and pack it for shipping.
However, neodymium magnets are special, and most of them are custom-made, without premade inventories in stock. If you need a specific design, we will have to make it from scratch. There will be a series of production procedures, consisting of a dozen steps to make one sample, whose turnaround time can be as long as 5 working days.
The production will involve various machines and instruments. Adjusting fixture and finetuning machines can be time-consuming. Meanwhile, there will be many more defective samples during the preparation.
Additionally, if you will require chamfering and coating, then the cost can be even higher. A typical chamfering and coating take more than 10 hours to complete. The coating barrel of several kilograms capacity only contains a dozen or dozens of magnets, so the coating cost is also very high.

2). The materials of neodymium magnets are expensive, especially those specifications with higher grades like N50, N52, etc. A lot of raw materials will be wasted for producing a small number of samples. We often use more than 200% materials to make samples.

3). Making samples requires a lot of effort and labor.
Generally speaking, we estimate the total cost of a sample can be as high as $200 – $500, while the unit cost of magnets for formal production can be as low as $1.00. The sample fees charged by magnet manufacturers are usually lower than their actual production costs. We are losing money to make samples for customers, hoping to establish long-term cooperation in the future.
